Reintroduction to Green Gecko  http://www.greengeckoproject.org/ in Siem Reap, Cambodia and the amazing work they continue to do with the 70+ former street children they rescued. They continue to astonish me with the brilliance of their programs and how they have embraced the family members of these children, too. Check them out and join me in wonder as they ARE THE CHANGE this community needed and embody how to change the future.  https://www.facebook.com/greengeckoproject?fref=ts
"Now this is what we call team work! Our kids from Green Gecko Project spent weeks collecting, cleaning and making yarn out of hundreds and hundreds of roadside rubbish bags so their Gecko mum and their own mums (from Rehash Trash) could crochet something beautiful for their soon-to-be-open Purple Mango Wellness Centre!"

Hunger doesn't take weekends or summers off. The compassionate folks at Blessings In A Backpack came up with a solution and "provide elementary school children on the federal free and reduced price meal program with a backpack of food to take home 38 weekends of the year". Genius. For just $80 you can sponsor a well deserving child for a full school year of "backpacks". That's less than a household bill, right?http://www.blessingsinabackpack.org/ They've done such a fantastic job with this program they are active in 583 schools, in 45 states in the US and Canada and have been asked to expand their program in Haiti and Columbia, South America, to begin with. Help support a great organization and a beautiful child in need of your care.

Plans for vacation this summer? Plan a day to visit the local homeless shelter with donations in the town you're staying in! I cannot imagine being homeless in a vacation destination and watching folks come and go throughout the year. Make a commitment to take a few more food items, dry goods, toiletries, or unused gift cards to the shelter near your vacation spot. Always leave a place better than you found it. Take An Extra Bag on vacation and leave a positive impact behind!

While we're all busy enjoying the spring and summer, food pantries see a huge drop off in their donations and struggle to take care of those most in need. Consider adding in a "Bring A Can!" theme to your graduation party and more! Are you a teacher? Ask families to have your students bring a can in and open a dialogue about kids who will be missing out on school sponsored free lunches during the summer. Are you an event planner/wedding planner? Encourage folks to include a "Bring a Can" theme to help supply the local food pantries! A wedding with 150 guest? Imagine the impact! Do you throw a big party when you open your pool? Bring a can and be the first one in! You'll think of something awesome! Let's all work together to keep our food pantries safely stocked this summer! Take An Extra Bag today!

REST YOUR WEARY HEAD

We wrapped up our collection drive for Operation Care Packages to send supplies to our troops. We included our patients in our program during recreational therapy time by encouraging them to put some thoughtful artwork on pillowcases that will be used in medical clinics on our bases overseas. Here are a few of the pillowcases some of our patients did! Consider this project with a group in your life! Just some pre-washed pillowcases (no fabric softener or other products just good old fashioned laundry detergent) and fabric markers or paint from your local arts and crafts store. Take An Extra Bag and send some love to our medical bases overseas! http://www.operationcarepackages.org/
